 The
Surry County JobLink has seen unemployment rates range between
7.8% to 9.6%. The center has begun opening its doors 30 minutes
earlier each day to provide additional service to customers.
Staff served an average of 6049 customers each quarter with
431 being placed in jobs each quarter. Their weekly Job Club
Workshop sponsored by Surry Community College and Employment
Security Commission is well attended. An additional WIA staff
member was added and an Educational Opportunity Program Consultant
(EOC) is now available two days each week. The Employment
Security Commission received the prestigious John B. Fleming
Award which is given to six recipients each year for office
effectiveness and efficiency.
